We know it feels challenging right now to be a parent during this uncertain time with the added pressure of trying to figure out how to homeschool and support our kids. We pray that you can use this time as an opportunity to invest in our children and choose faith over fear. I encourage you to savor these moments of connected family time. Rising Hope Kids Connection has compiled some resources to help equip you to disciple your children. Below are a list of activities you may use with your family.

Elementary Students-

  • Follow this link to hear this week's podcast for our Kids Connection Old Testament Lesson. Feel free to use this to talk with your children about King David and his heart. Ask your child what kind of seeds they should plant within their friendships and relationships. Read 1 Samuel 18:1–4;19:1–7; 20:1–42; 23:15–18; and 2 Samuel 9. with your child. This podcast and the following activities would be great to use in conjunction with our Rising Hope Digital Service On Sunday.

  • Ask your child if they can name the books of the bible attached to these acronyms that we have been working on in Kids Connection:

God's Excellent Love Never Disappoints

(Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy)

  • You may also download this week's activity sheets to do with your child. Level A is ideal for Kindergarten and First Grade. Level B is ideal for 2nd and 3rd Graders. Level C is ideal for 4th and 5th graders.

  • Another great way to choose faith over fear this week with your children is to memorize scripture together. When courage is lacking, fear threatens to over take us, drawing on scripture we have hidden in our hearts allows to draw nearer to God and rest in His Promises! This week, work with your child to memorize Colossians 3:12. As you work on this verse, talk with your child about how your family can put on compassion, kindness, humility, meekness and patience this week. Perhaps make a phone call together to encourage a friend or family member. "Social Distancing" cannot stop us from compassionately connecting with one another.

Ages 2-5 - If your child is under the age of 5, It is never too early to start diving into God's word with them. Below you will find some resources for children ages 2-5.

  • Begin a devotional with your child. This fun plan for kids teaches real-life lessons from a free Bible App for Kids story. Each day's video teaches a memory verse, a key truth, a song, and other concrete ways to help abstract truths stick. Follow this link to start a 6 day devotional on creation

  • On Sunday, Download this activity to do with your child, using an empty tissue  box,  and glue. Talk through with your child the days of the creation story and tell your child how much God loves them. Follow this up with taking a walk around your neighborhood or take your child to the park. Let your child point out things in nature that he or she remembers hearing about in the lesson. Explain that God made everything in nature, and He made it for us to enjoy!

  • Help your child to memorize "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1 NIV

We hope these activities, and devotionals will inspire you to grow closer to Our Heavenly Father as a family and encourage your children to follow after Him. You are being prayed for daily, and your church family is here for you!
